Welcome to the MacDonald Lab
Our research is focused on finding innovative ways to provide sustainable energy. We apply our understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics to develop new technologies capable of efficienctly producing power. In the lab we used a combined experimental and modelling approach. We use CFD and FEA modelling along with other modelling strategies to examine and optimize our designs, and we couple this with the design and build of prototypes to test the new ideas and validate the modelling work. We are currently focused on Stirling engines due to their capability to convert heat into power at the highest effieicncy and their high potential to provide sustainable, reliable, and affordable electricity.
